A Graduation that Oozed Possibilities Enlarges Unilia’s Graduates to 7541

The graduation of 1,144 students during the 19th graduation ceremony, held on Friday, 17 October, has increased the number of graduates from the University of Livingstonia (Unilia) to 7,541.

Beyond ushering Unilia’s highest number of graduates to the industry, the graduation also highlighted that it is possible for female students and mature students to excel in higher education.

Out of the 1,144 graduates, 653 were female and 490 were male.

“This shows that the number of females represents 57 percent of the graduates—a mark that surpasses the desirable but hardly reached 50:50 gender equality threshold,” remarked the Vice Chancellor, The Very Reverend Associate Professor Timothy Nyasulu, in his address during the graduation.

Female graduates also excelled in terms of distinguished performances. 11 students graduated with distinctions, and 8 out of the 11 (64%) were female students, namely: Agatha Chibwana, Hendrina Mwenibabu, Towera Kumwenda, Susan Lowore, Uchindami Thera, Desire Mtimbula, and Chimwemwe Mulaphi.

The graduation’s other highlight came through the distinguished graduation of a 67-year-old learner, Reverend Maurice Munthali.

Reverend Munthali was one of the four male students who graduated with distinctions. The other three distinguished male graduates were: Redson Kandozi, Elemia Chidakwa, and Daniel Mhango.

The ceremony, which was presided over by the Moderator of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia and Chancellor of Unilia, Reverend Jairos Kamisa, was held at Mzuzu Stadium under the theme: “Let My People Go Forward: Fostering Society Progress Through Quality Morality-Driven Education.”
