The Malawi Library Association (MALA) has appointed Donald Flywell Malanga, University Librarian for the University of Livingstonia, as Editor-in-Chief of the Malawi Journal of Library and Information Science (MAJoLIS).

MALA is a professional body for library and information specialists in Malawi.

As Editor-in-Chief, Malanga will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Malawi Journal of Library and Information Science by managing the journal editorial process. He will be also involved in leading the journal to get indexed in credible databases such as SCOPUS, AJOL and Web of Science; approving editors’ decisions regarding papers; shepherding submissions through the publication system; making decisions on the quality of the submitted articles according to their area of expertise; distributing Calls for Papers (CFPs) as widely as possible and to promote the journal whenever possible to gain submissions.

Malanga’s appointment excites the Unilia community because of its dual potential of raising the profile of Mr. Malanga and that of the University locally and internationally.

The University also regards Mr. Malanga’s appointment as a timely recognition for his academic strides in creating and sharing knowledge.

Malanga, a senior lecturer, has published more than 40 papers that appear as refereed journal articles, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, technical reports and book chapters. Malanga’s academic works are indexed and cited in SCOPUS, Library and and Information Science Abstracts, Web of Science and Google Scholar citations among others.
