  1. The death of The Very Reverend Associate Professor Nyasulu is one of the saddest moments in the history for UNILIA and the Synod, but also Malawi. The Very Reverend Associate Professor has been plucked suddenly from us at a time the Council and Malawi needed him the most.
  2. The Very Reverend Associate Professor Nyasulu, the Council found a vastly experienced academic and thought leader, who anchored our growth strategy for the University. We celebrate him under the title: The Very Reverend Associate Professor Timothy P.K. Nyasulu: An Intellectual and Spiritual giant that restored, nurtured and grew UNILIA.
  3. We wish to highlight the works of his hands which speak for the late VC (drawing on late President HE Professor Bingu wa Mutharika).

“if a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as michelangelo painted, or beethoven composed music, or shakespeare wrote poetry. he should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause and say here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well” -martin luther king, jr

Under the 9-year leadership the late VC, the University has witnessed:

  • witnessed tremendous growth. The University has consistently ranked the number 1 or best private University in Malawi by the Webometric Global University Rankings.
  • Expanded Partnerships with local as well as international institutions strengthened. Early this month, from 5 to 6 March, 2026 the University hosted third international conference on Hospitality and Tourism at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
  • Strengthened relationship with the Malawi Government and its departments and agencies also strengthened. Over the years, the Heads of State graced our congregations.
  • Expansion of Campuses and programmes: two to five functional campuses. A sixth campus, to be opened in Lilongwe, is also taking very promising shape.
  • Championing of a holistic model of education that integrated intellectual development with moral and spiritual formation, in line with the institution’s Christian ethos.
  • More students benefit from government loan schemes and other forms of support.
  • Development of development of Open and Distance Learning in the University of Livingstonia, recognizing its potential to widen access and respond to the evolving educational landscape.
  • The late VC, and as senior leader within the Church, including serving as Moderator of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia and Moderator of CCAP General Assembly, he exemplified the harmonious relationship between faith and intellect. He nurtured a generation of leaders who are not only academically competent but also ethically grounded and spiritually mature. He mentored, the colleagues he inspired, and the institutions he strengthened. He leaves behind a transformed academic environment characterized by growth, inclusivity, and a commitment to excellence.
  1. The late Vice-Chancellor built a network of partners within the country and beyond towards a strong internationalization of higher education. Council awaited the full realization on the University’s Vison and Mission.
  2. We have lost a special person, who was raised by the Nyasulu family in Kacheche, Mzimba, Malawi to serve the Church, mankind, the Nation and Council for University of Livingstonia. He had a unique flare for leadership in all spheres of life. Not surprisingly, His Excellency Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi appointed the Very Reverend Associate Professor Nyasulu as the Board Chairperson of the Tobacco Commission. We were very delighted and grateful for the national feat and service.
  3. May God comfort and strengthen Mama Nyasulu, all the children and relatives; you our beloved Moderator and the entire Synod of Livingstonia; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, all staff and students of the University of Livingstonia during this moment of deep sorrow and loss.
  4. The Right Honourable Vice President and our Moderator, this is a national loss especially to the Council for the University of Livingstonia. As we bid farewell to our Vice Chancellor, we want to assure the Synod, the Government and all partners that we will build on our departed Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to taking UNILIA to the greater heights.
