The Unilia Foundation, a United States–based charity dedicated to supporting the University of Livingstonia (Unilia), has donated a total of 56 laptops to the campuses of Ekwendeni, Kaning’ina, and Laws. The laptops have been proportionally distributed among the three campuses to ensure equitable access for students.
During the handover, Mr. Gomegzeka Mkandawire, Director of Planning and Development, said that “the computers will be in the campus libraries for students to access them just as they do with books.”
Commenting on the development, Tawonga Sibande, a Journalism and Development Communication student at Kaning’ina Campus, thanked the Unilia Foundation for easing pressure on computer and ICT services. “The laptops will ease typing of assignments, accessing e-books, and—for us journalism and development communication students—designing information, education, and communication materials,” Sibande said. However, Sibande appealed for additional support, asking the Foundation and other well-wishers to consider assisting journalism and development communication students with video cameras and possibly a drone. Apart from providing equipment and infrastructure, the Unilia Foundation also supports needy students with tuition fees.
