Biography

James Maduka is a Lecturer in Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of Livingstonia. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Biodiversity and Conservation Management at Mzuzu University, focusing on species diversity, distribution, nutritional content, and value chain analysis of freshwater crabs in Malawi. His PhD is funded by the African Centre of Excellence for Neglected and Underutilised Biodiversity (ACENUB). He holds an MSc in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from Mzuzu University, 2021, a BSc in Fisheries Sciences from the same institution, 2015, and a Diploma in Agriculture and Natural Resources Management from Natural Resources College, LUANAR, 2007.

James brings 8 years of field experience as Fisheries and Agriculture Officer for Kasungu District under the Government of Malawi, where he supported sustainable fisheries development and community livelihoods. He has also served as an Adjunct Lecturer at Mzuzu University for over 5 years, teaching and mentoring students in Conservation Biology, fisheries and environmental sciences. His scholarship focuses on conservation biology, with published work including profitability analysis of fish farming enterprises in Chamama EPA and geospatial modeling for fisheries sustainability in Lake Malawi. James is committed to bridging research, policy, and practice to advance biodiversity conservation and resilient aquatic food systems in Malawi and the region.
