Dr. Lucky Mhango is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand – South Africa, where he earned his Master of Science in Nursing in 2001. He joined the University of Malawi, Kamuzu College of Nursing in 1996 and later joined Mzuzu University in July 2006. He later joined the University of Livingstonia in January, 2025. He has mainly been teaching Introduction to HIV/AIDS, HIV/AIDS Management, Healthcare Administration and Quality Assurance and Certificate in Community Health. Dr. Mhango has been involved in various academic leadership initiatives in higher education institutions including the development of the nursing and midwifery undergraduate curricula and establishment of the Bachelor of Science in nursing and midwifery ogramme at Mzuzu University.
Dr. Mhango has held leadership positions of Chairperson for the Research and Ethics Committee (Laws Campus), Dean of Faculty, Dean of Students, Head of Department, Member of the National Health Science Research Committee, Board member of the 2 St John’s Institute for Health, Board member of the Nur ses and Midwives Council of Malawi, Chairperson of the Examination and Education Committee of the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi, Examiner and moderator for licensure examinations for the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi, Treasurer for the Witwatersrand International Students Association and Second Vice President of Nurses Organization in Malawi. His research interests include quality improvement in operating room nursing through information giving to patients/clients scheduled for operations, HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections among the youth, clinical teaching and nutrition of mothers and children.
