VC Re-affirms Unilia’s Commitment in Fighting Gender-Based Violence

As the country is observing 16 days of activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), the Vice Chancellor, Very Reverend Associate Professor, Timothy Nyasulu, has stressed that GBV must not be entertained in the University of Livingstonia and any learning institution as well as organization.

In a brief statement said that he is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for all irrespective of sex. ” I condemn all forms of Gender-Based Violence and commit to creating a safe and supportive environment for all regardless of sex. GBV has no place in our schools, workplaces, home or communities and churches,” said the VC.

The VC’s statement follows a GBV  awareness campaign that the University (Unilia) held at Laws Campus on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Sponsored by the Plan International, the day-long awareness campaign was held under the theme: Unite for Safe Campuses – Together Against Gender-Based Violence.

During the event, Unilia’s Gender Coordinator, Dr. Phoebe Chifungo, also sensitized members of staff and students on the Gender Policy that the University has. Among others, Dr Chifungo sensitized the students and members of staff on how to detect and report cases of  gender-Based Violence happening within the University and the community.
