As we continue to lead, not only in teaching but also in creation of knowledge through research, we are delighted to announce that our members of staff, Associate Professor Mbalwani Chingatichifwe Mbakaya and, jointly, Donald Malanga and Kaitano Simwaka, have published two research articles in high impact journals: The British Medical Journal (BMJ) and the Emerald’s Journal of Global Knowledge, Memory and Communication.
Published in the BMJ, whose impact factor is 96, Associate Professor Mbakaya’s article investigates the prevalence of genetic or parent-inherited disease called Familial hypercholesterolaemia in places other than North America, East Asia and Australia. The study also explores and points medical practitioners from the seemingly low-prevalent areas to ways and practices for treating Familial hypercholesterolaemia – a condition which results to coronary artery disease due to high or elevated levels of cholesterol from birth, and currently affects 1 in every 310 people worldwide.
In the Emerald-published article, our two librarians, Mr. Malanga and Mr. Simwaka, explore practices that higher education institutions in Africa are using to ensure effective management of records. Besides outlining the record management practices which are common in higher education institutions in Africa, the study identifies gaps and actions to be done to fill the gaps to ensure effective management of records in universities and other higher education institutions in Africa.
